Bonfires, the Eucharist, and More!

As fall begins in Duluth, we are filled with gratitude for how God is moving in the lives of students at UMD! Because of your prayers and support, they are encountering Christ in ways both profound and joy-filled. Here’s a glimpse of what your generosity has made possible this month.

This Month’s Events

Opening Bonfire

The students joined us for our annual bonfire and cookout! The night was filled with laugher, peanut butter s’mores, and catching up with old friends! Additionally, the students got to tour and hang out at the Newman House if they haven’t before, making them more comfortable.

FirstTimers Retreat

The FirstTimers Retreat welcomed many Freshmen and students who have never been on a college retreat before. Due to going on this retreat, the students left with a stronger sense of what God is calling them to and built a community of genuine friendships.

Rock Knob Mass

In the beginning of September, we hiked 1.5 miles to Rock Knob—an overlook with views of the city and Lake Superior—and celebrated Mass. Going on the hike allowed the students to chat with peers they haven’t met. Furthermore, doing the Rock Knob Mass allowed students to understand that the Lord is not only found in a chapel.

Giancarlo Bernini—Magician

The students got to enjoy and even be participants in a show put on by Giancarlo Bernini, a Catholic magician. While doing his mind-boggling tricks, Giancarlo seamlessly wove his testimony of how he encountered Christ at a young age and how that impact still affects how he lives his life as a disciple. His testimony served as encouragement for the students to follow Christ and base their identity on the truths of the Gospel message. Some students are still wondering how he pulled off some of his tricks…

On the Horizon

Students will be attending the last Open Door and then OCIA will start! They will also have the opportunity to partake in our Summer Night on Mission that is part of Mass and Meal.

Official Duluth Newman Merch

We have an official online store where you can buy exclusive merchandise from bulldogCatholic! See the link below:

Mark your Calendars! Give to the Max Day is Thursday, November 20th. Support raised on Give to the Max Day helps the Newman Center operating fund to offer retreats, formation, fellowship events, and outreach to all students on campus. Your support directly impacts the students on campus at UMD right now and for generations to come!

Support the Ministry!

Your generosity helps us offer retreats, outreach events, daily sacraments, annual conferences, and more to college students in the Duluth area. Each of these events work as a bridge to offer the truth of the Gospel message to young adults. Thank you for making that possible!

Another way to support us is through your prayers. Here are some of our intentions we are offering for our ministry this month:

  • For all of the students who have been attending Open Door and thinking about taking the next step by doing OCIA.
  • For the FOCUS Missionaries and student missionaries as they share the Gospel with other students.
  • So that the students call upon the Lord when in stressful times as midterms are coming up.
