Heather Serena Joins Duluth Newman Center Full-Time as Director of Campus Ministry🎉
Duluth Newman is please to announce that Heather Serena has accepted an offer to serve bulldogCatholic as the Director of Campus Ministry in a full-time capacity. After 17 years of serving part-time as the Assistant Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Duluth, she will be shifting efforts to bulldogCatholic full-time.
As a quickly growing ministry, Duluth-Newman is grateful for Heather’s acceptance to move into the Director of Campus Ministry in a full-time capacity. She will begin this role effective February 1, 2025. Heather has brought a great warmth and hospitality to the ministry for many years, and bulldogCatholic is grateful to watch her step into this familiar role full time.
“Virtually every you person who has been in the Diocese of Duluth for the past decade and a half, every youth minister, and every pastor engaged with young people has been impacted by Heather’s work. She has sacrificed so much so that the Good News of Jesus Christ could reach the most people possible.” said Father Mike Schmitz, UMD campus Chaplain. “Heather has worked side by side with gifted youth ministers and you adults so that God would be known and lived in Northeastern Minnesota. Her legacy of lives transformed by her ministry and presence will continue long into the future. I am grateful that she will be able to have the chance to focus her attention on the campus at UMD as the Newman ministry takes its next steps.”

Every Tuesday, students have been gathering for Alpha, where there has been a welcoming space to explore the Christian faith through discussions, community, ands parking meaningful conversations about life’s biggest questions.

Fr. John Ignatius, visitng from St. John Vianney Seminary in Denver, shared his wisdom on discernment with out students over 3 sessions. His talks provided invaluable insights into seeking God’s will in their lives.

Students are looking forward to All Saints’ Day Mass and the continuation of Alpha, where they’re diving deeper into what it means to follow Jesus each week. We’re also excited to host our Fan into Flame retreat, offering a weekend of reflection, community, and spiritual growth for all.
