Major: Biology and Spanish

What’s your major and your expected graduation?
I am a Biology major and Spanish minor graduating in May 2023!

What are your hobbies/interests?
I love to hike, run, bake, hang out with friends, drink coffee, and play Monopoly Deal!

Why did you choose UMD for college?
I chose UMD for many reasons, but the biggest sell was just that it felt like home to me! I love that everything is connected and I never had to walk outside in a blizzard freshman year… I also want to go into rural medicine and the Duluth medical school campus has a great rural program!

What is your favorite part about being a part of the BulldogCatholic community?
I found my two best friends in this community, and experienced genuine friendship for the first time! It took me until junior year to find my people (mostly because of the ‘rona lockdowns) but it was so worth the wait! This community is filled with a deep joy and peace that helps me strive to become the best version of myself.

Why should someone come to a Bulldog Catholic event?
Honestly, I am very food motivated so to be perfectly honest, sometimes I’m there for the food. But also Jesus is amazing and the peace & joy you can find in this community is unmatched by any other kind of event I’ve been to!

What would you tell a high school senior looking for the right college?
My best advice for choosing the right college is to make a spreadsheet where you can compare your top choices side by side! I would also say don’t discount your heart knowledge! A lot of people will give you advice on where to go and try to persuade you one way or another, but ultimately you’re gonna be the one doing the 4 years. Find a college that has good community, not just good programs. It won’t matter how great the classes are if you don’t have things to do outside of school! I’m a total workaholic but it’s not sustainable in college, so you have to get involved with organizations that you’re passionate about!

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned while in college?
My mom likes to tell me “you can do anything, but you can’t do everything” and I think realizing that’s true is the biggest lesson I’ve learned! There are so many things I want to do, but I’m not called to do all of those things, and that’s okay! Sometimes you have to take time for yourself too!

Who is your favorite Saint and quote from them?
I LOVE St. Gianna! But my favorite quote is from Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati: “Verso l’alto.”

What has been your favorite memory in college?
My favorite memory was freshman year, labor day weekend: I pulled an all-nighter with some friends to see the northern lights up in Two Harbors… never saw the northern lights but the stars were SO beautiful! We watched the sunrise over canal park when we got back, and even though I’ve only kept in touch with one of those people, it will always be one of my highlights from college.

What’s the best Wi-Fi name you’ve seen?
I don’t know about best WiFi names, but there was one time where I was on a trip with my grandma, mom and sister, and my mom asked “what’s the wifi?” for the hotel. My grandma replied “I don’t know, this says internet” and that continues to crack me up to this day.

Where is your dream vacation spot? Why?
My dream vacation would be Spain! There’s so much history there and I’ve always wanted to try some authentic paella… but also there are awesome beaches where you can just relax or mountains to hike in. Best of both worlds!

If you could shrink any animal to puppy-size, what animal would you own?
If I could shrink any animal to puppy size, I’d probably own a cow. I think they’re absolutely adorable and I plan to get two when I have my own house!
